A Burger A Week – Alpine Steakhouse
They’ve got more going on here than just TurDucKen!
It’s basically every and any carnivore’s dream. A high-quality butcher shop comingled with a steakhouse. If you love meat, I’m not sure what could possibly be better than that.
Since 1975, the Alpine Steakhouse (aka Karl Ehmer’s) has been serving delicious cuts of beef, pork, and chicken that you can either have prepared for you in the restaurant…
OR you can take something home and do it yourself…
Oh, the choices that we’re sometimes faced with. 😀
I’m sure a bunch of you remember the restaurant’s turn in the Food TV spotlight when Guy Fieri featured their famous TurDucKen on November 10th, 2007. Boy, that seems like a REALLY long time ago. That episode actually aired on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives 2nd season! (For context, they’re on season 35!)
📃 MAKE IT AT HOME? No, we’re not even remotely considering doing it. But if you would like to attempt to make Alpine’s signature Thanksgiving centerpiece. We’ve got the recipe for you. You can CHECK THAT OUT HERE! (If anyone takes a stab at making this, please, please, please send us a photo!)
OK, let’s get back to burgers. I should stay focused! Alpine has a very loyal local following. And burgers are a big seller for them. That means they’re doing something right over there. We’re here just to make sure.
They’ve got two burgers on their regular menu. First a ½ pound Sirloin Burger and then the Signature Steakhouse Burger. This will be the easiest choice I’m going to make today. PRO TIP: If the name of the dish includes “signature,” it’s safe to assume the restaurant is proud of it. This is obviously the go-to selection!
🌟 Just as a reminder. We’re ordering all of the burgers that we’re tasting cooked medium. And we’re ordering them as they are listed on the menu. No substitutions.
Let’s see how this all turned out… 🍔

BURGER TASTED: SIGNATURE STEAKHOUSE BURGER
📒 OUR TASTING NOTES
✅ This burger is served as listed on the menu as: ½ pound patty, house-made jowl bacon, crispy onion ring, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. ($15)
My burger was on-the-money medium. Great job by the kitchen!
The bun. Tasted like a freshly baked bun. Super light and fluffy. That’s all good news. This is a BIG burger. You don’t need a heavy bun to add to the mass.
This burger was not super easy to eat. That has absolutely nothing to do with how it tasted (which was great). But be aware, you’ll need both hands and maybe a utensil for this one! 🍴
I’ll just put it out there. I do LOVE fries (OH, and tater tots!). These were Beer Battered Fries. They were perfectly cooked, super crispy, and a fantastic accompaniment to this burger. 📃 My server, Chloe, let me know that these fries also came in a truffle oil drizzled and parmesan cheese tossed version. WHOA! Next time, I guess… 😲
This burger was topped with “house-made jowl bacon.” That bacon was a fantastic addition. Thick cut and had a great flavor. A definite upgrade from your standard old regular bacon.
Let’s check out how all of this looked when I ordered it…
BURGER TAKEAWAYS: A BIG, delicious, messy burger • A classic Sarasota restaurant experience • Great bun! • Don’t pass on the French fry upgrade! • Good service • Loved the bacon!
👀 SNEAK PEEK: Next week, we’re at a Bradenton favorite since 1959! As you can see, we’re staying with the “classic” theme…
