A Burger A Week – Oak & Stone
Yes, there is pizza and “Pour Your Own Beer.” But how is the burger??
ππ We’ve got an interactive Burger Map to help us track our Sarasota A Burger A Week adventures. Now your burger info is just a short click away! Take a look at our Sarasota Burger Tracker! – A BURGER A WEEK MAP πΊοΈ
Let’s start with this. I love a good beer (or any beer really), and I certainly don’t object to pouring my own (I’ve done that a lot). It just seems like opening up your taps to an untrained beer-pouring public could be a dicey situation. As it turns out, I definitely wasn’t giving us amateurs enough credit for our skills. We have indeed risen to the occasion! πΊ
I first heard about “self-pour” back almost ten years ago. The first thing that popped into my head was, “can this actually be a thing?” I’m talking about the concept of YOU serving your own beer to your own self! Not at your house or some backyard kegger, but at an actual place of business!
Back then, self-pour was available at a few MLB parks around the country, but not at any restaurant that I knew of. As we all know, things change…
In 2016, Joe Seidensticker thought it would be a great idea to take his self-serve beer and artisan pizza concept directly to the Sarasota restaurant scene (and hopefully beyond). Enter Oak & Stone AND The Beer Wall!!
Fast forward to 2023. There are now five Oak & Stones (and beer walls). They’re all super casual and comfortable. It’s a perfect place to meet up with friends, take a date, or grab a bite before a concert! (The St. Pete location is right across the street from Jannus Live!) πΆ
Oak & Stone has a “sports bar” kind of feel. That makes it a great spot to catch any game or sporting event.
They serve a pretty respectable pizza. But that’s not what we’re here for. You KNOW we’re here for the burger! π
Let’s talk about our Oak & Stone burger experience…
RESTAURANT: OAK & STONE (4067 Clark Rd. (941) 893-4881)
DATE OF VISIT: FEBRUARY 16, 2023
STOP #: 22 OF 52
BURGER TASTED: THE GRIDDLE BURGER
π OUR TASTING NOTES
π This burger is served as listed on the menu: Melted cheddar blend, crispy onion straws, lettuce & secret sauce ($15)
Yes, they have LOTS of beer. Unfortunately, this was a “workday” for me, so no beer. π’
β’ This burger had a great “burger” flavor. Really meaty and super juicy. They must use at least an 80/20 beef blend. Probably hard to dry this one out. Mine was cooked nicely.
β’ I LOVED the crispy onion straws. The crunchy texture was a nice contrast to the burger itself. Nice addition!
β’ The cheddar cheese blend melts perfectly! Sometimes the cheese you get on a burger doesn’t exactly “melt.” It just kind of sits on top of the patty, trying to melt.
β’ The “Secret Sauce” got a little lost in the rest of the toppings. Maybe I just didn’t get enough on my burger.
β’ The Fries! – Delicious. Perfectly crispy and perfectly salted. I wished that there were more of them in my order. π
β’ I’m really starting to like shredded versus leaf lettuce. I also think that when it’s shredded, it’s a touch more forgiving. By that, I mean if you have a lettuce leaf on your burger and it’s not super fresh, it shows.
β’ I didn’t know what to expect going into this stop. I hadn’t heard folks raving about the burger here, so my bar wasn’t set very high. But this place ended up being a super pleasant surprise! π
Let’s check out how all of this looked when I ordered it…
BURGER TAKEAWAYS: Casual, upbeat atmosphere β’ Five locations means one is probably near you β’ At $15, it’s pretty average price-wise β’ Lots of parking at the Sarasota location! β’ If you like beer, there are 50 flavors to choose from! β’ If a burger isn’t your thing, you can always grab a pizza π
π SNEAK PEEK: There’s a place in Gulf Gate that is known for its regional “cuisine.” Let’s see if their burger is as good as everything else that comes out of their tiny kitchen.
