The LIST – July 2023
It’s July and we’ve got some dining ideas just for you!! 😃
It’s summer; it’s slow (and hot!). ☀️
The 2023 version of Savor Sarasota sure seems like it was a big success. Lots of you went out there and supported our local restaurant community AND were rewarded with some fantastic dining deals. I’m certain they are grateful for your business.
BUT even though Savor has crossed the official finish line, it’s not completely over quite yet. There are a bunch of places that have extended their Savor savings right through the summer. HERE’S A LIST FOR YOU! 💵
❓Here’s a question. Why does it seem like there are 3-4 new restaurant openings every week? Don’t misunderstand; I’m just as excited as you about all of it. It just seems a bit nuts and a little unsustainable. I’m just hoping that we’re creating a Sarasota food community that is built to last! 🤞
The upside of all of this restaurant growth is the choices that are available for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and, of course, cocktailing. And if that’s what you’re looking for, you have certainly come to the right place!
We’ve got three of those new places to give a little shout-out to this month. And in a bit of an odd occurrence, all of these spots were opened by folks who already have other restaurants in town. So weird…
Our dineSarasota.com restaurant database now stands at a whopping 380 places. That is a whole lotta choices!
Let’s start things off with Namo Izakaya (1439 Main St. (941) 362-3332). This is a ramen and yakitori spot from the same folks who own and operate the popular Drunken Poet Cafe. Seems like a great use of the old South Philly Cheesesteaks space. I’m good with ramen anytime. Even in the heat of a Sarasota summer!
Next, Beso (30 S. Lemon Ave. (941) 279-2999) just recently opened on the first floor of The Mark building (glad to see they’re filling up that empty retail space).
📝 Toastique, a boutique gourmet toast and juice bar, is opening right next door in the next few weeks.
Beso is dinner only. Featuring small plate tapas-style dishes, including charcuterie. It’s owned by the operators of the State Street Eating House, so you know that they’ll have a creative cocktail program. 🍸
And last, we have a new downtown deli. And it’s rolling out slowly (which is probably a smart strategy!). From the people who brought you Kojo and Bar Hana comes the Palm Avenue Deli (1297 N. Palm Ave. (941) 263-3742). They started with just breakfast. Worked their way up to lunch. And the eventual plan is to be open 24 hours a day 🕛! NY style deli food and easy Palm Avenue garage parking all combine to make this a good bet to be a downtown mainstay. This opening fills out the rest of the old Louis Modern space on Palm Ave.
Here we go! Let’s get to our Top 5 for this month! 🌠
#5 Beso (30 S. Lemon Ave. (941) 279-2999)
We added it just this month, and it’s obvious that you’re searching for more information on this spot. No need to re-hash; please read above. ⬆️
#4 Shebeen Irish Pub & Kitchen (6641 Midnight Pass Rd., (941) 952-3070)
Shebeen drops a spot to number 4. But this popular Siesta Key Irish pub has been in our Top 5 since we added them to the database in January of this year, including four consecutive months on top of the heap!
#3 Florence & The Spice Boys (4990 S. Tamiami Trl. (941) 941-405-3890)
Yes, that is the locally famous Chicken Shawarma Salad! In a little menu re-do, they’ve switched out the Chicken Shawarma Tacos for a Chicken Shawarma Pita! It’s just as tasty as the tacos too. Maybe this is a sign that taco mania has hit critical mass and is on the downtrend… 📉🌮
#2 Bar Hana (1289 N. Palm Ave. (941) 536-9717
That’s the same Bar Hana that sits right next door to Kojo, AND now its new neighbor, the Palm Avenue Deli. People absolutely love this newish meeting and greeting scene. Yes, they have food, including Bao Buns. But the delicious drinks are the real star of this show.
#1 Osteria Southside (1812 S. Osprey Ave. (941) 361-3200)
Two months in a row for Osteria on the top of the list! Congrats. I think you all know why. Super comforting cuisine, a casual atmosphere, and at a price that will not break the bank. ✅ I know it’s hot (really hot!), but the homemade soup is a must!
Here’s the rest of the Top 10 for July 2023.
It’s Michael’s On East, followed by the Bijou Garden Café and LWR favorite GROVE Restaurant. Mattison’s Forty-One and The Chateau Sarasota round it all out!
HERE’S THE COMPLETE LIST OF THE TOP 25 FOR JULY 2023!
Of course, we have some local Sarasota food-related news for you (You didn’t think we forgot, did you??). We try and stay on top of things so you can do some other stuff like cut the grass or maybe clean out the garage. 😁
Please enjoy some tasty local headlines!
