I’ll just start with this…
➡️ I’m not suggesting everyone take their cardiologist out for a burger. But it was FUN! 🍔
That should set the tone for this Burger Ride-Along. It’s one that I’ve been planning on writing since the start of this series all the way back in August 2022.
Burger number 1 of 52 was Baker & Wife. That seems SOOO long ago. When I wrote that article, I didn’t think the Sarasota burger road would be so long. I also remember writing that I didn’t want this to turn into a Super Size Me situation.
📝 I don’t think I have much in common with Morgan Spurlock, and I’d like to keep it that way!
2️⃣ There are Two Dr. Ed Bermudez’s in town. Mine is Dr. Edward Bermudez (HE CAN BE YOUR DR. TOO!). He’s been my cardiologist since 2003. Yes, that’s 20 years. We’ve gotten to know each other a little over that time.
Ed and I share a Chicago connection. He went to Hersey H.S. (That’s a NW suburb for those who don’t have a map of Chicagoland burned into their brain). That’s not my neighborhood. But we did live at opposite ends of the same county. He did his residency at St. Francis Hospital in Chicago. Ed likes Chicago, too! 👍🏻
Our chats have mostly been in his office. They always end with me paying a $40 copay and making an appointment for next year.
Ed has a calm, gentle, and caring bedside manner that’s easy to like. Even with that, those talks can be a touch “one-sided.”
A little more of a level playing field is what I had in mind. You’re at an odd disadvantage when you’re sitting on the edge of an examination table in a fashionable paper outfit. This is exactly where a burger can bring people together! 🍔
We did our burger bonding at Connor’s Steak and Seafood. I figured if I’m going to take my doctor to dinner, it should be a couple of steps up from a food truck (although some of my favorite burgers have been served out of a window!)
As you would guess by the name, Connors is a steakhouse.
They have a steakhouse dining room.
They have a steakhouse bar.
And they serve steakhouse steaks.
As Ed and I would later find out, they also serve a great steakhouse burger!
We’re here today to taste their Boursin Burger. Let’s talk about our Connors Steak & Seafood burger experience…

BURGER TASTED: BOURSIN BURGER
📒 OUR TASTING NOTES
🍔 This burger is served as listed on the menu: Sautéed mushroom, homemade Boursin, crispy tobacco onion, fries ($19)
• Ed thought this burger was moist, juicy, and full of “Steak-Like” flavors. I couldn’t agree more! Tons of beefy burgerness going on here.
• The crispy tobacco onions make a great texture addition. There were A BUNCH of them! I didn’t get a big punch of “tobacco” or smokey flavor. But they did a lot to the overall composition of the burger. A nice addition!
• Boursin is in the name. But sometimes that doesn’t mean much. This time it does. The house-made Boursin cheese has a bright, garlicky flavor that compliments all the rest of the tastes that defines this burger.
• This is a BIG burger. But it is surprisingly easy to eat. When I saw these burgers delivered to our table, I thought I would be wearing it by the end of the meal. But happily, both Ed and I made it through the evening without a bib (or a Tide Pen!). 🖊️
• THE FRIES! – They’re natural-cut fries. Ed thought they were nice and crispy. I agree! Plus, they were cooked perfectly. We both thought they were a little oversalted (I think that might be the cardiologist talking! 🗣️). 🍟
• We had great personal service from our server, Renee. This IS a steakhouse, after all (not a burger joint). So, no matter what you’re ordering, you’ll get that upscale attention to detail.

BURGER TAKEAWAYS: A big city steakhouse experience • For the price, the burger and the setting are appropriate • Normally, this place is always busy. A res is not a bad idea • Lots of parking makes Connors easy during season • They only have one burger choice on their menu, and it’s a good one!
🩺 Some doctor’s notes – I did have a cholesterol test mid-way down this burger trail. And remarkably, my numbers looked a little better than before I started! Weight and BP both good, too. This is NOT to say that you all should go out and have a burger every week. You might want to check in with your own cardiologist before embarking on that trip!
👀 SNEAK PEEK: At this point, I’m not really sure I should be sneak-peeking. Our last nine burgers look like a restaurant version of musical chairs. The list is changing just about daily. I guess you’ll just have to read burger #43 to find out where we land! I’ll probably be surprised, too!
