The Sarasota deli scene is getting crowded. And fast! It’s a good development for lovers of piled-high sandwiches and smoked fish. But it can be confusing.
Let’s see if we can untangle at least a small part of it.

Confused? Allow me. First, these three spots are all in the same spot. They just serve three different purposes and audiences.
➡️ The Original is where you can grab that sandwich, a bowl of soup, or a knish.

🤷🏻♂️ WHAT’S THIS PLACE LIKE?
They’ve got a LARGE menu. Really Large! There are 92 food options!! 😮
They’ve got some beautiful deli cases. They went out of their way to display their food in an old-school deli way.
There’s only street parking here. So, in season and in a rapidly growing Rosemary District, this might be a slight inconvenience.
Lots of outdoor dining space. In fact, most of the tables are outside. You’ll hear lots of “deli” talk at those tables, folks telling stories of deli experiences gone by. 🗣️
WHAT’S IN A NAME?
Naming sandwiches after people is a “deli thing.” Don’t ask. I don’t have answers. But it’s something that lots of delis do. There’s a BIG list of names at Wolfie’s. Relax, you know them all.
Stephen Sondheim, Nathan Lane, Bette Mider, Matthew Broderick, Irving Berlin… You get the picture. Today, we’re at Wolfie’s for one of those BIG names.
Yes, we know it’s Barbra. But is it Strei-sand OR Strize-and?…
This may help (or not!).
Today’s ONE DISH is actually a two-for-one dish. Let’s just call it a classic combo, shall we?
Mix and match over 100 different ways. The Barbra Streisand is a soup and sandwich combo. Pair half of your favorite deli sandwich with a cup of soup. Straightforward right?

This is the way WE solved the math problem.
Chicken Soup is a classic! It would have been hard to pass that up. And it’s a pretty big portion size, too.
We paired it with the equally iconic Pastrami Sandwich.
It might not be the most creative of the 100+ pairings we could have gone for, but it worked for us.
📝 There are two sandwich sizes at Wolfie’s; Sarasota (6oz) and Manhattan (10oz). The Barbra Streisand is half of a Manhattan-size order, so it’s about 5oz.
💭 FOOD FOR THOUGHT…
• The Matzo Ball Soup was not an option for this combo. It only comes in bowl size, not cup size. They should fix that. Seems easy.
• The half Manhattan-size sandwich and the soup were more than enough for lunch. Plus, you also get a choice of potato salad or cole slaw for a side. OH, and a pickle. 🥒
• At $17, it comes in on the lower end of Wolfie’s specialty sandwich price scale.
• I REALLY wanted to make my half sandwich a “Duet” (combo of any two deli meats), but, alas no go. I guess they have to have rules. 😢
✅ BOTTOM LINE
We now have great NY-style deli choices in Sarasota. And each of those places has its fans. This is a GOOD problem to have! Wolfie’s offers a little bit of something for everyone. They’re the new kids on the block, so a bit of patience may be in order as they navigate their way. Give the Barbra Streisand combo wheel a spin! You just never know what might come up!
