OK! We’re going to wrap up this burger series in fine fashion this year. Promise!! YES, it has taken a touch longer than I’d anticipated. NO, I’m not running out of steam. (It just feels that way sometimes. 😂)
🗣️ I do have one tiny ask. This will be burger number 45. That means there are just seven burgers remaining. PROBLEM: I’ve only got six slotted in. That means I need one more to get to 52!
✅ Here’s Where You Come In. I need some suggestions for that open spot. We’ve hit some really great places over the past year and change. Now I just need to identify that last great burger joint and finish strong!

All right, let’s get to burger #45 shall we?…
When I think burger, I DO NOT immediately think Mediterranean-influenced restaurant. Rational, right? But that is exactly where we’ve landed ourselves.
Back in 2018, a team of talented culinary types wanted to keep the Greek/Mediterranean thing that El Greco had done for years at the corner of Orange Avenue and Main Street alive. They opened Avli Mess Hall.
When a trademark dispute reared its ugly head (ugh!), a name change was in order. 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen & Cocktails was born.
The husband and wife team of Eddie Zaki and Mila Aguiar, along with their friend and Chef, Alex Gosselin, are the unstoppable forces behind this popular downtown eatery.
They’ve built something that’s unique but, at the same time, refreshingly familiar. I think comfortable is the word I’m looking for.
They’ve got a great outdoor dining space.
And a dining room that, when full (which it often is), is electric. ⚡
The bar has a “Big City” feel to it. 📝I don’t even think I know what that means anymore, but I still love the sound and imagery of it. 😁
To say that they have a pretty eclectic menu would understate the reality. I can’t think of another place in town that has Pizza, Poutine, Bangers and Mash, AND Moussaka all listed on one side of a single sheet of paper. That is quite a spectrum!
We’re here for the burger, which is very descriptively titled Burger & Fries. 📝 HEY, maybe we can help these good folks out with a burger naming competition? What do you say? Might be fun…

BURGER TASTED: BURGER & FRIES
📒 OUR TASTING NOTES
🍔 This burger is served as listed on the menu: 8oz burger patty, 1592 sauce, tomato, caramelized onions, romaine, jalapeño, choice of cheese (cheddar, Swiss or pepper jack). Add bacon $3, spicy feta $2, feta $2 ($18)
• This is a BIG burger. It’s a full half-pounder! And it tastes like a burger. Super meaty and juicy. Three cheese choices. I opted for cheddar on my burger.
• It’s served with “1592 Sauce.” I’m not sure what the secret ingredients are, but it has a very distinct BBQ character. It isn’t exactly BBQ sauce. Not nearly that sweet. But it seems to draw on that flavor profile. A mystery… ❓
• There are jalapeños on this burger. I was skeptical, given the other toppings that come on it. But they didn’t overpower things here. And they played nicely with the caramelized onions. A good combo!
• Toppings – some on top, a few on the bottom. I wish more places would see the wisdom of putting those toppings on the bottom of the sandwich, closer to your taste buds! 😛
• THE FRIES. YES, we get fries this week! I am always excited about that. These were a natural cut fry. Cooked nice and crispy. They came with a mayo-based dipping sauce that was so good I put some on my burger (worked great there too!). 🍟

BURGER TAKEAWAYS: Fantastic service. My server, Andy, gave me just the right amount of attention • At $18, it’s a pretty fair deal for the amount of food that you get. You won’t leave hungry • If you want a craft cocktail to accompany your burger, this is the perfect spot! • Dine outdoors for that streetside cafe feel
