A Burger A Week – Hamlet’s Eatery
A Food Truck Burger In The Most Unique Setting

π FOOD TRUCK AHEAD!
Or at least that’s what I thought going into this burger stop…
For those who have never been, above is The Bazaar on Apricot & Lime. One look at the building tells you all you need to know. The appearance of the building completely reflects its contents. An eclectic mix of “stuff” that makes roaming through the aisles seem more like a treasure hunt than a shopping trip.
The Bazaar also has something else that’s pretty unique. They have a food truck living in their backyard!
To be clear, I haven’t done a complete survey of our local Sarasota food truck scene (that would be fun, though!). Most of the ones that I have eaten at serve pretty delicious food out of that tiny window. But I’ve yet to find one that also hosts live music, bingo, and trivia. Until now…
A Food Truck Can Be SO Much More! With all of those fun things going on, it sounds like WAY more than just your typical food truck. And in many respects, it is. Hamlet’s Eatery takes the traditional definition and spins it in a way that perfectly suits its funky location.
The truck’s footprint has been built out to include a nice little awning. Great for relief from the direct summer sun or those rainy Florida days.
They have some roomy outdoor dining space (both covered and not). There’s also a stage for their live music. π Hey, that stage seems like a perfect setting for some food truck karaoke! πΆ
Another unexpected thing. This cute miniature bar! πΎ If you look closely, you will discover that they have prosecco on tap! I can’t think of any other food truck that has that!?
All of these nice little touches make Hamlet’s a local food truck experience like no other. So much so that it’s almost its very own category!
Atmosphere, ambiance, and character are all great things. But we’re here for the burger. And since we’re so close to the end of our burger journey, stumbling to the finish line would be a letdown. We need to finish strong. And we’re hoping Hamlet’s will help get us there!
Let’s talk about our Hamlet’s Eatery burger experience…
RESTAURANT: HAMLET’S EATERY (821 Apricot Ave. (941) 445-1938)
DATE OF VISIT: MARCH 1, 2024
STOP #: 47 OF 52
BURGER TASTED: HAMLET’S BURGER
π OUR TASTING NOTES
π This burger is served as listed on the menu: Smoked gouda cheese, bacon, garlic aioli, Brioche bun ($15)
β’ The way that Hamlet’s is set back from the road makes it feel like it’s in its own little world. And, in a way, it is! A semi-urban oasis awaits. π΄
β’ You’re not going to need a bib to eat this one. It did have that meaty burger flavor. Translation: It tastes like a burger should taste. Even with the smaller patty size, it was cooked to order.
β’ This burger is NOT complicated. No tomato, lettuce, or onion here. So, the toppings that they do use need to shine on their own. And, for the most part, they do. LOVED the garlic aioli! And the smoked gouda was a nice touch.
β’ There is an interesting mix of people eating at Hamlet’s. Some professionals, some retirees, and some folks who seem to have just wandered through The Bazaar and ended up in a magical courtyard. I like the “Everyone is Welcome” feel!
β’ THE FRIES. Yes, we get fries today! These aren’t my favorite fry style (Yes, I can now say that I am the proud owner of a favorite fry style π). But that being said, these were cooked really well. Crispy, lots of flavor, and masterful use of the saltshaker. I ate a LOT of them! π
Let’s check out how all of this looked when I ordered it…
BURGER TAKEAWAYS: It’s an easy, quick stop for lunch β’ Go for some B.I.N.G.O. and a burger! β’ It’s a little bit hidden, but it’s worth the effort to find it β’ Hey, you can buy something you never expected to buy at The Bazaar! β’ Say HI to Kim at the window. She’ll appreciate it! π
π SNEAK PEEK:Β We’re just rolling along to the finish line. And we’re still juggling the order of our last five. Stay tuned… π
