Did Steve and Mike Evanoff realize back in 1997 what they were starting and getting themselves into? I’m guessing not.
Buying a 16-plus acre parcel on Bee Ridge Road and imagining it as a family entertainment complex and sports bar is one thing. Building a local food and beverage powerhouse is quite another.
📰 This Will Come as News To No One. Evie’s on Bee Ridge is more than just a place to grab a burger. A lot more!
There is an arcade for the kids (and maybe the adults).
OH, they have one of my favorites. An old-school table hockey game! 🏒
Trust me. That thing is hours of fun for all ages!
🏌️♂️ You can sharpen up your “real” golf game…
Or work on your mini-golf skills.
Given the above activities, you would also expect an ice cream parlor. And your expectations would be met! 🍧
Evie’s takes full advantage of that 16-acre piece of Sarasota real estate. They have a great outdoor dining space (probably more comfortable Nov-Apr than at the moment 🌡️).
For a little more temperature-controlled experience, you can eat that burger inside and catch a game or two.
🍔 There Are a Lot of Burgers in Town. And, if you’re “only” going to sample 52 of them, decisions need to be made. Important decisions.
After coming all this way, we’d be hard-pressed to leave this longtime Sarasota favorite out of our burger adventure. And, if you’ve been serving burgers for 27 years, you have to be doing something right.
Here’s something that’s been hammered home these past 20 or so months. The burger (whether simple or complicated) is one of those foods that EVERYBODY has an opinion about. I guess it’s a lot like pizza (or even tacos, for that matter).

BURGER TASTED: PATTY MELT
📒 OUR TASTING NOTES
🍔 This burger is served as listed on the menus: Sauteed onion and Swiss cheese. Served on rye bread ($14.99)
• 1st, I LOVE a Patty Melt. So, this quiet burger bias is going to give this one a leg up. I was not disappointed!
• This Patty Melt is cooked to your favorite temp. Most Patty Melts I’ve come across have been cooked well done (that’s not a bad thing for this style of burger). Went for med-well (no disapproving email, please. I feel enough shame 😁).
• The grilled onions on this version were fantastic! Perfectly cooked.
• There is melty Swiss on the top AND the bottom of this Patty Melt. 2X cheese = 2X delicious!
• This is an 8oz burger. Bigger than your usual Patty Melt. And the buttery grilled rye bread is up to the task.
• TOTS TODAY! We’re closing this whole fry thing out with an order of crunchy, salty tots! I know these are probably straight from a frozen Sysco bag, then loaded into the fryer. But I still love them! 🍟

👀 WHAT’S NEXT?: Good question! I think it’s only fair that we wrap up our burger trek through Sarasota with some observations and random thoughts. We’ll do that in the very near future! Stay tuned for that…
