Google fever is sweeping Sarasota. If you have been paying any attention at all to our local tech scene in the last couple of months, you too would be in the throes of Google Fiber Mania!
The race is on across the nation to be a Google darling and Sarasota is in the mix. The Internet search giant is looking for a place to test their new Google Fiber. It’s an ultra high speed Internet connection, which is purported to be about 100 times faster than what most Americans currently have.
Sarasota, along with several other U.S. cities appears to possibly be in the running. Although as anyone who has ever had any dealings with Google knows all too well, nothing is a sure thing when it comes to the Internet giant.
Potential Google Fiber test cities have been doing just about everything to catch the company’s eye. We have temporarily renamed City Island, Google Island to help our cause. Our Mayor has even taken a dip with the sharks to show our level of commitment.
You may be asking yourself by now, “what does all of this have to do with the Sarasota food scene?” Here’s where the connection comes in.
Enter the Google-tini. The drink is a pomegranate vodka, passion fruit concoction that Lee Roy Selmon’s Restaurant has rolled out in support of the effort. I’m not sure if the Google-tini will tip the scales in Sarasota’s favor, but, it couldn’t hurt to have a few and wait for the choice or choices to be named.
You can grab a refreshing Google-tini at our local Lee Roy Selmon’s in Lakewood Ranch.
Hopefully Google’s light will shine on little old Sarasota and all of us will be looking up restaurant information faster than you can say, “another round of Google-tini’s for my friends”.
