And then there were two… OK, it’s not nearly as suspenseful as a good murder mystery, but, it’s all I’ve got. #2, one of the best new restaurants to have opened in Sarasota in a while. And, I’m not just saying that. It’s true. I mean, before this thing opened people were waiting like they were going to be handing out gold bars at the door. Instead, what they got, was some awesome food!
#2 Owen’s Fish Camp
I have yet to run into the person here in Sarasota who has had a bad thing to say about Owen’s. And, around here, where EVERYBODY has an opinion (and a strong one) about our restaurants, that’s amazing. The Caragiulo Brother’s have more than a little restaurant experience. They have been running their successful namesake Italian eatery for years. But, this place, Owen’s Fish Camp, it’s got a life of it’s own.
There’s usually a wait. But, people don’t seems to mind. It’s nothing fancy. But, that’s part of the charm. And, there’s not a lot of parking. But, people find a way to get there.
The food is fantastic! My go to dish is the Low Country Boil for 2 (no, I don’t try and consume that by myself. Not that the thought hasn’t crossed my mind). There is so much to brag about on this menu that you pretty much can’t go wrong no matter what you order. Oh, I’ll get a bunch of mail if I don’t say, yes, the Shrimp and Grits are killer. And, they are!

I don’t see what’s so great about it. I’ve been 3 times because of the hype. Mediocre food & service. What am I missing? Born & raised in Florida; I know my seafood.
