This is Suziโs office…
She works in the shadow of โThe King.โ
The pressure must be incredible with Elvis always standing in your front yard eyeing you, but so, it goes…
YES, weโre having a food truck burger today! ๐๐
The Double W Ribeye Wagon food truck is parked next door to The Blue Heirloom. Its neighborhood suits it perfectly. Itโs a little hippy and a bit funky. A throwback to another decade, a time when burgers were a little simpler.
The soundtrack that plays as mood music says it all. I graduated high school in the late 70s, so to have Firefallโs 1978 classic Strange Way serving as an accompaniment to my burger feels oddly comfortable. ๐
This hidden gem also has a โdining roomโ.
Itโs not much, but on another brutally hot September afternoon, it was just the oasis I needed for burger sampling without being incinerated by the noontime sun. โ๏ธ
Weโre here for the burger, but the Double W has a classic sandwich option that I must admit I almost could not resist …
Yes folks, itโs a REAL honest to goodness Sloppy Joe. And for the throwback price of $5.49. Letโs be honest. The bag of chips alone goes for 2-3 bucks in a lot of places! โ Iโm hoping these sloppys are cooked in a crockpot!
Some amount of focus is required. Weโre here for the burger, so we must not let ourselves get distracted by the other shiny objects. Before itโs too late, let’s talk about our Double W Ribeye Wagon burger experience…
RESTAURANT: DOUBLE W RIBEYE WAGON (5648 Swift Rd. (941) 323-8401)
DATE OF VISIT: SEPTEMBER 12, 2023
STOP #: 41 OF 52
BURGER TASTED: BACON CHEESEBURGER
๐ OUR TASTING NOTES
๐ This burger is served as listed on the menu: Fresh ground beef on a toasted bun, grilled onions, sautรฉed mushrooms, bacon, American cheese, ketchup, mustard, and pickles. ($7.49)
โข This is a smash burger, so we are already off to a great start. I LOVE this style. For one, it lessens the chance that your burger will be over OR under cooked. Itโs more of a โone size fits allโ situation.
โข The bun was perfectly grilled. Being nicely browned made this an excellent carrier for the patty and toppings. ๐ This is one of those things that I have come to appreciate. I never really thought much about the toasted or griddled bun before starting on this whole burger project.
โข The burger had wonderfully charred edges that gave it a nice texture difference from the other ingredients on the sandwich. AHH that crunch!
โข LOVED the pickles. These werenโt some fancy house-brined pickle version (although those can be delicious). These tasted straight out of the pickle jar. And that was OK with me! ๐ฅ
โข The bacon is crispy, salty, and savory. And, best of all, you can actually taste it on the burger. A lot of times, unless it is particularly thick cut, it gets lost. Not here.
โข Sadly, no fries today. But I am a BIG fan of your standard, regular Layโs potato chip (I LOVE Jayโs too ๐). But if you want chip choices, youโve got them. ๐ I also get that not having to have a deep fryer in a 1000ยฐ trailer in the heat of summer is a good thing!๐๐ซ
๐ธ Let’s check out how all of this looked when I ordered it…
BURGER TAKEAWAYS: This a GREAT bargain burger (So is the Sloppy Joe!) โข This would be a good spot for an office lunch takeout โข There is lots of parking โข Suzi is just fantastic (and Iโm sure her co-workers are too) โข Add a second patty for $3 โ GO FOR IT! ๐
โก๏ธ One of our readers suggested the Double W Ribeye Wagon (I think more than one). I canโt, for the life of me, remember who that actually was. So Iโll just send out a blanket THANK YOU! โค๏ธ
๐ SNEAK PEEK: Weโre hoping to make our next stop a downtown place with a well-respected craft cocktail program, and that is for โPeople That Know Food.โ I say โhopingโ, because we have been hopscotching some late summer/early fall restaurant schedules lately. ๐ค๐ป
