There are a few places that are only on this burger list because of a personal recommendation. This is one of them! 🍔

The Mable (as Growlers is now called) is perfectly placed across North Tamiami Trail from the Ringling College of Art and Design. An eclectic neighborhood filled with arty college students NEEDS a place like this. It just fits!
Sometimes a place takes on the personality of its surroundings. In the case of The Mable, it’s as unique as the folks that call this smallish, dimly lit space home. I mean, what other place in the Sarasota area shows off this kind of décor?…
As you would expect from the images above, the inside is warm and comfortable (and the people are nice!).
And yes, you can grab a cold one!
Our local breweries are well represented among those handles.
Like I said at the top, a few places on our burger list got there because someone said, “Hey, you really should…”. And The Mable is one of those places.
It only makes sense that the “recommender” would also have to be a participant on this visit. Our “Ride Along” guests for The Mable comes as a duo. Without further delay, let’s meet Brass-Piper Worldwide!
Todd Piper and his wife/partner in adventure Kathryn Brass-Piper are deep-rooted Sarasota people. They’ve been in town long enough to have both attended high school here (Her, Sarasota – Him, Riverview). They’re also a very talented twosome.
Todd creates beautiful and unique custom cabinetry and woodwork. His work ends up in a lot of high-end homes around the area. He’s even done a few pieces for some local restaurants. You may have eaten at “his bar” and not even realized it! 😀
Kathryn is a professional photographer. Food photography is one of her specialties. And she’s one of the best in town. If you’ve ever picked up a copy of Sarasota Magazine or Edible Magazine, you’ve probably seen her hunger-inducing photos. Maybe even on the cover! Shooting food at The Mable is going to be a bit of a challenge. 😁
OK, our tasters are set. And The Mable, with its funky feel, suits these two local artisans to a tee. Now all that’s left is the burger! 🍔

BURGER TASTED: ANGUS CHEESEBURGER
📒 OUR TASTING NOTES
🍔 This burger is served as listed on the menu: Lettuce, tomato, and onion. Served on a brioche bun ($7.50)
• Todd’s first reaction, “This is a REAL burger.” Kathryn thought it was seasoned just right. I couldn’t agree more. It tasted exactly like a burger should. Meaty and delicious! I also thought it was an ideal size.
• All of our burgers were cooked perfectly; charred on the outside, medium in the middle. It may seem easy to turn out a burger cooked the way a customer wants it. But our past results have been mixed. Not today. On the money!
• We all loved the brioche bun and the super fresh toppings. That buttery bun added a little something extra to the burger patty. A great match.
• We got TOTS! Truffle Tater Tots, to be exact. They were super crispy. But they need a little extra boost in the truffle department. I know that there is a very fine line between too much and not enough truffle. These could use a splash more. 🍟
• A couple of extra random comments and observations. Todd was mildly disappointed he couldn’t get a “free refill” on the burger. Kathryn loved the “haunted house style atmosphere.” I was hoping for an exhilarating game of Yahtzee for “dessert” (there was a box in the corner)!

BURGER TAKEAWAYS: The Mable is FUN • Great burger, fantastic price (One of our best burger values yet!) • It’s a little out of the way (depending on where you’re coming from), but worth the trip • There’s a great craft beer selection (we sampled a few!) • This place is super low-stress and very easy to like.
📸 OH, one last thing before we go. Kathryn has a fondness for bathroom selfies. Of course, we all had to participate!
👀 SNEAK PEEK: All right, next stop takes us out towards I-75. It’s a great place to watch a sporting event. They may be known for their “Zingers”, but we’re here for the burger!
