I like to eat. But, I’m certainly not a food snob. That gets me into trouble sometimes with some of my foodie friends. I’ll admit it, I like Yoder’s open faced turkey sandwiches. I like Hob Nob burgers. I like Jamaican Jerk wings at the Siesta Key Oyster Bar. Don’t get me wrong, I also enjoy finer, more gourmet cuisine too, but this post isn’t about that. We’ll save that for another time. This piece is about a time honored, low food snob factor, culinary experience. The pancake breakfast.
Those who know me, know that if there is a pancake breakfast around town and I know about it, I’ll do everything I can to make it there. There is something about the combination of the atmosphere, the food and the people who are volunteering their time to cook that is hard for me to resist.
Here in Sarasota we get a crack at a first class pancake breakfast each and every month. On the the first Sunday of each month, our local Shriner chapter plays host to a fantastic pancake breakfast. From 8:00am until 1:00pm the public is invited to come and take part in a great culinary tradition. For the low, low price of $4.00 ($2.00 for kids under 10 and FREE for children 3 and under) you can indulge yourself with an awesome Sunday breakfast with absolutely no cooking or cleaning on your part. You’re breakfast will include all the pancakes you can eat. Plus, scrambled eggs, sausages, juice and coffee. That’s a meal deal if I’ve ever heard one!
There are rides to and from the parking lot if you’re feeling lazy (or stuffed). A clown to entertain the kids, a piano player to entertain the adults and great food for all. If you happen to be in a pancake mood or just wanting to try something a little different, the Sarasota Shriners Pancake Breakfast is just the thing. See you there!

During Covid-19, is there still a pancake breakfast at the Shrine on Beneva, Sarasota the first Sunday of the month? If yes what action is taken to keep all safe?
Larry says
Unfortunately, they stopped doing those a while back. It’s a shame they were really fun AND had great food!
