We get a lot of email from Sarasota restaurants about their events and happenings. And, we appreciate them keeping us in the loop.
It’s really hard to write about and feature all of it. So, we’ve decided to try and post up as many of the items from our inbox as we can on a weekly basis. That’s what this new feature is all about.
Along with our regular articles on Sarasota food and restaurant news, we are going to start this Odds and Ends listing. It’s a work in progress, so, you’ll probably see some format and content changes ahead.
I’m going to attempt to post this every Thursday using news tidbits that we have received during the past seven days. Oh, I decided to do this one a day early because of the holiday this week.

The Hillview Grill is now featuring $8 Burger & Beer! Choose from any of their 1/2 pound Angus specialty burgers, with a side dish. You also get a choice of 23 oz. draft or a glass of house wine or soda.
The Colony Dining Room. Sunday nights are Italian Festival nights! $19.95 all you can eat buffet. The dining room opens at 5:30pm. There is also a limited ala carte menu for the evening.
Libby’s Cafe + Bar Chef Fran Casciato is adding to Libbys family atmosphere and its regular menu of creative comfort food with a special Feast of Seven Fishes Florida-style. A variety of different courses are planned to include Gulf Coast Oyster Bisque, Colossal Shrimp Cocktail, Crab Cakes, Sea Bass, and more.
Christmas Eve cheer also comes with drinks specials for the ladies starting at 8 pm, including $2 wine and champagne and $4 Cosmos and Elf-tinis, a peppermint-cranberry induced festive indulgence in honor of the engaging Sarasota Elf.
Ring in the New Year with friends and family with a memorable night at Fleming’s Steakhouse & Wine Bar. Indulge in your Fleming’s favorites, or select from two special menu offerings created especially for the occasion by Executive Chef Russell Skall.

Chef Paul Mattison announces a Christmas Eve special, the Feast of the Seven Fishes served at Mattisons Forty-One, 7275 South Tamiami Trl. 941-921-3400, on December 24,2009 from 11:30am. The Feast is made up of a variety of fresh seafood and fish, served on one large platter with pasta and includes Chilean Sea Bass with Truffle Lobster Sauce, Oysters Rockefeller, Shrimp Rangoon, King Crab Leg, Seared Scallop and Mussels for $38.95. The full menu will also be available that evening.
