Its official, stone crab season in Florida has begun. Starting this past Wednesday October 15th, local restaurants have been serving one our most delicious seasonal food items. The season which runs through May 15th is always a special treat for area diners. There are so many great places in town to enjoy a platter of tasty crabs.
Up on the north end of Longboat Key, Moores Stone Crab has been serving up stone crabs since 1967. What the restaurant lacks in ambiance, they more than make up for in price, service and quality of product. They serve some fantastic stone crab at some of the best price in town.
If you would like to enjoy them in the comfort of your own home you have great options. Every Saturday the downtown Farmers Market has a seafood vendor that sells fresh stone crab to take with you. We all know that stone crab tends to run on the expensive side, this is a great way to save a little money and still have a feast. All of our other local seafood markets have stone crabs as well.
So, why not make a run out this weekend for some of our great local seafood. You can get a jump on the crowds that will soon be returning to Sarasota. In the next few weeks well bring you information on The Colonys big annual Seafood and Wine Festival where stone crabs are the big stars.
