“Napoleon, give me some of your tots”…
I’m sure the good folks at Ore-Ida aren’t quite quaking in the tater tot making boots. But, maybe they should be. No, I’m not suggesting that the tots you see pictured below will be in your local supermarket frozen food section anytime soon. It’s just a great illustration of how you can transform the humble shredded potato ball if you put your mind to it. Chef George from Mar-Vista on Longboat Key has certainly done that. And, in a delicious way!
I have fond childhood memories of the tater tot. I’m sure many of you do too.
The picture… Your mom carefully and of course lovingly dumping a random number of frozen pale yellow potato nuggets onto a baking sheet and then quickly parking them in a pre-heated oven. Ah, Yes, the fine dining memories come rushing back.
I’m wondering if Chef George has the same flashbacks. Something has definitely prompted him to really get the tater tot right! These gourmet delights are made of potato, onion, jalapeno peppers and jack cheese. All lovingly combined and served with a chipotle honey mustard sauce. Yes! That’s the way you do it!
I’m willing to bet those aren’t the tater tots of your youth. I know they’re not from my past.
I absolutely love the reinventing and re-imagining of food standards that have been around a while. It shows a love and appreciation for the original. But, with that, “I can do this better” attitude. Applause…
