The drum roll please… I guess that’s a little much considering the name of our #1 restaurant is in the title to this post. Yes, that’s right, Munchies 420 Cafe is #1 on our list for 2010. Congrats to them!
OK, I think right off the bat we should dispense with all of the thinly veiled, drug subculture references. If you know them great, if you don’t, it’s not my job to clue you in. Ask the teenager in your household, they’re there to help. Instead, let’s talk about some crazy, over the top food.
The sandwich pictured above, well, that’s pretty typical of what you’ll find at Munchies. Allow me to illustrate. The Fat Sandy is one of Munchies signature sandwiches. Sounds benign enough, right? Here’s what’s in it. Two cheeseburgers topped with mac and cheese, topped with chicken fingers, add onion rings, how about some French fries on top of that and finish the whole thing off with a few mozzarella sticks! I just want to know how someone dreams that up. Oh, I think I may know…
The 4:20am closing time, (yes, that’s AM) is in keeping with Munchies slogan, “cause yo momma don’t cook past midnight”.
When the Travel Channel’s, Man vs. Food came to Sarasota a couple of years back, Munchies was their featured restaurant. It’s where host Adam Richman attempted (and failed) the Munchies, “Fire In Your Hole” wing challenge. Instead of me attempting to explain how this works, you can just check out the video.
Granted this kind of thing isn’t for everyone, but, like it or not, it has helped put Sarasota on the culinary map.
